How to reset a PSN password for a none PS Store account

1. Try to sign into your account on your PS3, when get the message "An email has been sent to you." check your email.

2. You should receive a link in your email message to change your password in the PS Store page, we only need the code after the word 'token='.

3. Go to this URL:
https://account.qriocity.com/reg/account/validate-forgot-password-token!input.action?token=****&request_locale=en_US

Replace the **** with the 'token=' code recieved in the email message.

4. Sign-in in your PS3 with the new password.

5. NO MORE PlayStation®Store is not available in the selected country or region.

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Just got it installed..

I was so worried that I would have to leave Ubuntu 10.10 with it's default Gnome 2.0 to the new Unity desktop. I downloaded the new release yesterday and it took me about 4 hours with the speed of 512 kbps.

It came to my mind that I should first test the release before using it. I popped the CD in the drive and chose 'Try Ubuntu'.. to my surprise it gave me the save look that I ever wanted! Great! So I backed up my bookmarks and documents and media files and started installation.

The installation was just like version 10.10. Everything went smoothly. When everything was up and running, I followed these steps to make the ultimate experience with my installation:

1. Before I login, I chose 'Ubuntu Classic (with no effects)'
2. I installed 'nVidia' Graphics Card driver.
3. Edited the xorg.conf file just like the 10.04 and 10.10 releases.
4. Rebooted and fixed the resolution.
5. Installed Startup Manager to fix the splash screens resolution.
6. Installed languages and codecs following the guides in this site.

and that's it.

Things to do after installing Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

Every release of Ubuntu needs some configuration to work right. Ubuntu 10.04 is no exception.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and then I followed all of the old instruction of the post about Ubuntu installation.
Sound
I discovered that there is no sound. So I clicked on the speaker icon and I chose for the sound
"Analog stereo output + Analog mono input". I also cancelled the amplified sound and lowered the volume to 100%..

I followed this guide to fix my splash screen:

uvesafb is required for the v86d package to be installed. hwinfo package is required for the next step as well.

sudo apt-get install v86d hwinfo

Then I had to add a line in grub menu:
To edit grub menu:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

I add this line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1280x1024-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap"

We also edit the modules file:

sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules

I add this line:

uvesafb mode_option=1280x1024-24 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap

Force the use of framebuffer:

echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash

sudo update-grub
sudo update-grub2
sudo update-initramfs -u

Theme
I discovered that the icons of (minimizing, maximizing and closing a window) in the default theme are on the right. I do this to put the "right" place.

I first change the theme to New wave for the right controls. For Controls and Window Border I choose Ambiance. For the Icons I choose Ubuntu-Mono-Dark.

Can't wait for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS!

It's only four days to go (by the day of this post) to try out Ubuntu 10.04 LTS..
I've been using Ubuntu since 6.10 Edgy Eft.. I'll try to report about the new version once installed and I'll update the configuration of the video card post..

How to install Alchemy in Ubuntu

Update:
Alan is right.. a parameter is missing in the code so I updated the code in the post accordingly..
I added a "-C" between the file name and directory.

As I read through the article about the flow of David Revoy's work, I came across a comment by him about where to get the programs he used in his painting time-lapse. One of them was Alchemy.

I searched through the net if there is a deb package of Alchemy, but to no avail. So I decided to install it the right way, as if it was installed as deb package.

Here is how:

1. Download the tar.gz file from here.
2. We will extract Alchemy and puts its directory in "/usr/local/bin/". You can choose another destination, but I always choose this for my tar.gz extractions:
In the terminal:

sudo tar zxf Alchemy-007.2.tar.gz /usr/local/bin/
sudo tar zxf Alchemy-007.2.tar.gz -C /usr/local/bin/

3. Now we want to check our program if it working correctly or not.
In the terminal:

bash /usr/local/bin/Alchemy/Alchemy

If it didn't work, make sure you have Java installed.
4. Now we need to put an entry in the Ubuntu menu:
- Right click on the menu bar and click on Edit menus.
- Choose the Graphics category, then click on New Item button.
- In the Name field type Alchemy, and in the Command field type bash bash /usr/local/bin/Alchemy/Alchemy and then press OK.
5. Click on Close.

By this, we installed Alchemy now.. enjoy..

Optional step: How to add the icon of Alchemy to the menu entry:
I extract the Alchemy.jar file away from the directory /usr/lcoal/bin/Alchemy just to get an icon for the program. Just in terminal after the extraction:

sudo mv /org/alchemy/data/alchemy-logo64.png /usr/local/bin/Alchemy

and then in the menu entry icon guide it to the location of the program and press Enter and you'll find the icon.

How do I configure my Ubuntu installation

The first time I installed Ubuntu on my PC, I felt like I'm entering a new world.. Back then I didn't know what to do and what not.. and it happens that I formatted my PC so many times just to get my installation right.. and I'm always comparing what I have in my Windows partition with what I have in Ubuntu's..

Now I can use all of my PC potential, so I thought of sharing my way of Ubuntu installation. Maybe someone out there would benefit from it.

Before I start, let me tell you about my PC:
Model: hp pavilion a420.me
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000 (2.17GHz)
Memory: 1 GB DDR RAM
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 5500 AGP 256 MB GDDR1/ 128bit
*(I used to have ATI Radeon 9250 Pro with the PC package and I'll explain how to use both)
Monitor: hp pavilion f1723 Maximum resolution is 1280 x 1024
HDD: (1) 40 GB, (2) 250 GB.

[A] Hardware Configuration:
After ordinary installation, (I will not go through the installation process, as there are other tutorials which take care of this best) I take care of my PC hardware, especially the video card driver.

1. nVidia GeForce 5500: How to
I use the proprietary driver for this:
From the menu System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers -> Then I select "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173) [Recommended]"
Then I restart my PC..
After the restart, the driver is successfully installed..

2. Fixing monitor specifications
Some monitors are not modified by the system, so they require some of the user interference through the configuration. So to get to the maximum resolution, you should add some specifications in the xorg.conf file:

Section "Monitor"
   Identifier     "Configured Monitor"
   VendorName     "hp"
   ModelName      "pavilion f1723"
   HorizSync       30.0 - 81.0
   VertRefresh     56.0 - 76.0
EndSection

I also add this inside the Screen section

Section "Screen"
   Identifier     "Default Screen"
   Device         "Default Device"
   Monitor        "Configured Monitor"
   DefaultDepth    24
   SubSection     "Display"
       Virtual     1280 1024
       Depth       24
       Modes      "1280x1024@60"
   EndSubSection
EndSection

(By the way, "Virtual" fixes the resolution in the GDM)
and then I restart..

3. Fixing and making permanent resolution
I enter the nVidia settings through this code

sudo nvidia-settings

Then I choose "X Server Display Configuration",

choose "1280x1024", "60 Hz" and then press "Save X Configuration File"

It's perfectly normal that the model is not accurately detected. My monitor is LCD, but here it says CRT.

4. How to fix the resolution of the splash screen
We're talking here about the screen with the Ubuntu logo and progress line.. if you want to fix the resolution of this to match the rest of the resolutions of the other screens (GDM and X), we have to edit usplash.conf file:


gksudo gedit /etc/usplash.conf

here's how my usplash.conf file looks like:

# Usplash configuration file
# These parameters will only apply after running update-initramfs.

xres=1280
yres=1024

after saving the changes we want to apply them by this command:

sudo update-initramfs -u

Now you'll have a full experience of nVidia GeForce 5500 in Ubuntu..

It's the month of holidays.. which means only one think: More time to spend in front of my PC monitor.

I always feel that I have the burden of doing lots of things so I bought this book. I set my next year resolution to finish all that I have promised to do. Thank goodness most of the things that I should do always involves PCs..

Blender Advanced Fluids - DVD Video Tutorial

I was reading through one of the blog posts of Hand Turkey Studios and I said, why don't I check this out. I really need to learn some Blender Compositing Techniques. Then, I eventually registered in cmiVFX, just to check those techniques and I thought if I liked the way of the tutorials there I would buy the 'Blender Advanced Fluids - ~~DVD~~ Video Tutorial'. Unfortunately, cmiVFX does not send DVDs anymore, because they've become green. Their new moto now is:

"NO MORE DVD'S = NO POLLUTION!"

I though that it's ok for me to download a video then. To my surprise it's not allowed to save those files. To save them you have to sate this before you order and you should add to the total amount about 14 US dollars.

Blender File Browser - Bug Report

There is this bug that it seems to be in every version that I know of..

Try to open the File Browser:

Then click on Window Type button:

Then the buttons (Open) and (Cancel) are gone!

Is this normal or not? Should I report this as a bug.. mmm I think I should..

It's the promised day, but...

It seems that the Ubuntu server cannot take the load.. it has error 503 from time to time the day of launch.. which only shows one thing for sure.. Ubuntu is loved by so many.. and one day will take over the reign of Microsoft.

I've tried so many Linux distros: PCLinuxOS, Arch Linux, Xandros, Fedora.. but the one I find myself really comfortable with is Ubuntu..

There is something about Ubuntu that makes anyone fall right away in love with it. The wait is almost over with the new version 8.04. Can't wait to see it in action..
